Today, a little boy came into the store and asked me, "Where do you have the cheapest shoes?"
I showed him where they were and asked if they were for school. He said, "Yeah." I looked at his feet and saw the shoes he was wearing were literally falling apart. I asked if he had worn those for the first day of school, and he said yes. He told me a story in a low voice, and it broke my heart.
I told him not to worry and to pick out any shoes he liked. He asked, "Why? I'm not going to have the money."
I told him, "Don't worry, I'll buy them for you."
He looked at me and said, "Really?!"
I said, "Yes, of course." He picked out his favorite shoes. I told him to make me a promise: to get good grades and be good in school. He said he promised. He kept telling me this was unreal and that he couldn't believe it was happening.
So my new buddy walked out of the store with a brand new pair of shoes for the school year.
Nothing makes me happier than seeing someone with a smile on their face. Helping people is the best gift God has given me.
Have a good school year, buddy. Bless up.
